Hillsboro Parks & Recreation

Recycling Uptick at Oregon’s Hillsboro Ballpark Attributed to GreenDrop Recycling Stations®

July 17, 2013 | by J. Scott Collard

Hillsboro, OR (July 17, 2013)—GreenDrop Recycling Stations are an instrumental part of the recycling program at the Hillsboro Ballpark, the home of Hillsboro Hops.  The City of Hillsboro Parks & Recreation Department owns and operates the operations at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex where Hillsboro Ballpark is located.  As part of the City’s environmental and sustainability programs, they have partnered with Garbarino Disposal Services to increases recycling efforts and decrease the amount of waste going to landfills.  The City of Hillsboro and Garbarino have selected the GreenDrop Stations from Pacific Cascade Corporation to assist with the recycling program at Hillsboro Ballpark.

GreenDrop Recycling Station at the new Hillsboro, OR Ballpark, the home of the Hillsboro Hops, allows guests to accurately dispose of waste within specific waste streams at one orderly stop.

GreenDrop Recycling Stations reduce landfill contributions by users easily self-sorting recyclable and compostable items out of the landfill waste stream.  Reducing their environmental footprint while minimizing expenses and being fiscally responsible through sustainable operations.

“Partnering with GreenDrop allows Hillsboro Ballpark to incorporate a convenient waste-diversion system that patrons can utilize without increasing operational costs,” explains Peter Brandom, City Sustainability Manager. “We evaluated other containers, but GreenDrop was the best option for the ballpark’s recycling needs.”

The unique, market-leading GreenDrop Recycling Station was designed through multi-year efforts of the Portland Trail Blazers head office and the Rose Garden Arena.  The arena’s landfill diversion rate increased from 38% in 2007 to 90% in 2012, in part by replacing old-style garbage cans with GreenDrop Recycling Stations. GreenDrop stations reduce landfill contributions by visually guiding users to properly dispose recyclable items.  GreenDrops are a key tool in reducing a venue’s environmental footprint through fiscally responsible sustainable operations.

Lyle Peters, Director of Sales for the GreenDrop Stations, adds, “10 stations have been deployed at Hillsboro Ballpark and this has been an exciting project for our Pacific Cascade team. We developed custom instructional labels depicting specific items in use. Detailed labels guide guests to quickly and accurately dispose of waste within specific waste streams at one orderly stop.”

GreenDrop Recycling Stations are a proven asset when investing in facilities operations and public perception. Contact us to discuss how GreenDrop stations can enhance your recycling/composting program.
